I have to say this morning was fantabulous!!! What made it fantabulous? I slept in. The girls got themselves breakfast. I slept in. They watched a movie. I slept in. Did I happen to mention I got to sleep in and NOT have to get up at 5:50am! Fantabulous! (use it in a sentence today).
So I have learned there are rules to this blogging thing. Mainly you set up your blog and it has a certain voice. You can be political or a have a religious blog. You're blog is either about cooking or kids. It's funny, sad or (wait for it) fantabulous!!! I feel the direction I am going is to talk about my life and it can be all of the last three mentioned. I wondered whether or not I would address the significance of today. I decided I will do it in the way that it most pertains to my life.
Sept. 11 or Patriots Day. However you choose to refer to it. I will call it Patriots Day. The events leading up to this day changed our military life significantly, as we were set to leave the military before that morning. Kaitlyn was just 8 months old and I watched the tv that morning and for the weeks after. Jay had just returned from a deployment three days earlier, (back than they were only four months long). Some of my non-military readers are probably wondering, a deployment? Yes, these were going on long before Sept, 11. As we all know we didn't leave the military that day and since we have had deployment after deployment and they get longer and longer.
Our country lost many good Americans that day. You see I say Americans because that day and in the days, weeks and months to come, this is what we were, AMERICANS. We all rallied together. You saw people from all walks of life holding one another, crying together, helping each other. The lines that we draw against each other based on social status, religion, race and others were all but erased. You weren't rich or poor, black or white, christian or jewish...you were just American, you were a PATRIOT. We all did it. We hung our flags on our houses or cars. We put bumper stickers that simply said, FREEDOM. We were showing the terrorists that we were stronger than them. That they couldn't defeat us so easily. That America was one big family unit and we would rally around each other. It was the most amazing thing I had ever witnessed. There was a pride to be American. People stood behind the troops, the firemen and policeman.
It has been nine years since that day and I think we, Americans, have lost sight of what it means to be a Patriot. The lines are being drawn again. Race against race, religion against religion and status against status. I would hope that this day we can remember those who lost their lives and come together again. Erase the lines and look at your neighbor, or the person standing next to you in the check out line and just smile. Say Hi! If you see someone in need, help them. Thank a service member, a policeman, a fireman. Thank a nurse. If you know a military spouse whose husband is gone, say thank you. If you're feeling truly fantabulous, bake them some cookies and take them over. (my address is available upon request). These acts of kindness are something we can do every day, it is a way we can honor those who passed and show them how we continue to be PATRIOTS.
With that I hope everyone has a great day. Enjoy your weekend and your time with your family. And use the word FANTABULOUS today and when you do, scream. You know like Pee-Wee's Playhouse. Just try it once, you'll look silly but I bet you will laugh!
