I remember when I was young, real young, you know like 20 years old young!
I hated coffee... I mean it tasted like coffee..how gross!
But now, at the ripe ol' age of 30, it's great! Of course it has to have cream, sugar some sort of flavoring if possible but yummy!
Today I got to have coffee, not the stuff I make at 6am from my Mr.Coffee pot but the kind where someone takes the time to put it together like a perfectly orchestrated ballet. It tastes so much better if someone else makes it and costs half my retirement fund!
Even better than my perfectly brewed vanilla latte was I got to have coffee with another human being! Face to face!
Even better than that this human being was an award winning photog!
I love to talk! Which is why I am so glad the home phone doesn't charge me by minutes! I have seen my phone bill actually say I spoke for 7000 minutes in one month! Which means I actually gabbed for almost 5 days straight!
So anywho...there we are me...award winning photog...vanilla latte.
I don't know if it was the surge of caffeine, the surge of nervousness or the fear of my own self but I just started gabbing! Like a mental midget! On and on I went.
Instead of telling him about myself I went on and on about how I love Nick Brandt and Jasmine Star, (other photogs). Silly me but I think he may want to work with them now.. I sold them well.
I told him my camera wasn't professional grade...down sell.
I told him I cant figure out my speed flash... down sell.
I told him one of my lenses is manual focus and I have a hard time getting it to focus... down sell.
At one point in time i just started saying random things like "Hey I hit an owl!"
What the heck was I doing? This was supposed to be casual coffee and I was basically screaming "I am a dumb butt!". I am pretty sure at one time I offered to get him his coffee during shoots! Really Collette..
DOWN SELL
Holy moly... I finally took a deep breath and told him I want to learn. That I had been shooting for less than a year. That while I don't know everything, I am willing to learn. That I feel you can never stop learning.
And you know what he offered me a second shooter/assistant spot on a wedding this Friday! Yippeee!
My reply, " I have to find someone to watch the crazies"... awesome photog replies with "the what?"
I say..."you know the crazies, frick and frack...my children." He just kinda nods his head....
Down sell
Caffeine can be a deadly to conversation!
