But, today was not supposed to be one of those days.
Today I was supposed to have lunch with the neighbor. We had talked about it for a while and decided last Friday we would go. We talked about it Monday, choosing today. We even talked about where to go...the golf clubhouse ( so fancy sounding huh) or dog and duck. ( I am really hoping that they serve more than that there)!
I was beyond prepared! I went to bed early last night. Got up, did my chores, did my hair, picked out a 'going out to lunch outfit' and waited.
And waited.
And Waited.
Hmmmm...door bell rings!
I was like a little kid! YAY...Friends!
Hold up.. you're some dude in a red shirt, I don't think you're my lunch date! At this point I look out at the driveway to where the lunch date lives and ....
it's empty!
I can't begin to tell you how much my heart sank. It was like realizing your prom date wasn't coming!
I know this seems so silly, but in a new town where I know very few people and my adult conversations and relationships live in a phone, grownup interaction is very important! I wanted one hour of my week to not be about silly bands, iCarly or the word Mom. I wanted one hour to pretend I was a complete grown up!
When a military wife, or any spouse for that matter, has a partner who travels for a living, outside relationships become important. They remind us that we can put on our good heels and pretty blouse and indulge in an adult conversation.
So now I sit... I'm not wearing my good heels (honestly I never was.. I did although have my good flip-flops on), I changed out of my cute shirt and am wearing my ever comfortable Ali Al Salem AFB shirt. ( It was Jay's, I stole it), threw my beautifully straightened hair into a ponytail and made a bowl of rice with butter and Parmesan and am having lunch with the ladies of 'The View'. I feel sad, I feel kinda lonely but than I realize that the girls will be home soon and I can't help but smile when for the hour after they get home, you know when the talking is NON-STOP, that I'll be thinking about this right now, the silence of me and the tv.
Ring my bell.
(p.s. after looking at this picture of my doorbell, I notice that I seriously need to clean it! It's kinda grody!)

I'm sorry :( You can come here and we can go to lunch ;)
ReplyDeleteLove you!
I will have lunch with you in seven and a half weeks! you better wear some sexy hooker heels. lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you had such a bad start to your day, some people dont think about how their actions affect others. I hope she had a damn good excuse! Keep your chin up and stay strong, you have two beautiful girls looking up to you. Little does your neighbor know, she missed out on what would have been the most fantabulous lunch date ever;)!!!
ReplyDeleteThat stinks, but I am glad that you wrote about this. Sometimes people do not think about how their actions (or lack of) can really damper another persons day.
